August brought a fresh wave of changes to Dota 2 with Patch 7.39d – a mix of balance tweaks, small but meaningful terrain fixes, and a brand-new in-game event that’s caught the community’s attention.
While not a full rework patch, 7.39d makes subtle changes designed to refine competitive play ahead of The International. A problematic Radiant safe lane ward spot has been addressed, and several trees near the Dire safelane small camp have been removed to improve movement and vision balance.
A handful of popular items saw fine-tuning:
Blade Mail – Slightly reduced bonus damage and altered damage return values to make its spike less punishing.
Octarine Core – Bonus HP and Mana reduced, curbing its durability boost.
Witch Blade – Armor bonus lowered by one point.
Helm of the Undying – Death Delay increased; no longer allows attacking buildings while active.
Sister’s Shroud – Evasion and duration both trimmed, making it less oppressive in duels.
These adjustments nudge certain items away from overly dominant roles without removing their strategic value.
Several heroes received targeted tweaks to abilities, base stats, and talents. Standouts include adjustments to mobility-heavy heroes, a few durability nerfs to tankier picks, and minor buffs to underplayed supports. While no hero was drastically overhauled, the changes should subtly shift drafting priorities.
The highlight of the month isn’t just balance—it’s the arrival of Quartero’s Curios, a free progression-based event featuring the quirky goat merchant Quartero.
Players earn XP from matches (wins and losses) to unlock rewards:
Level 10 – Witch Doctor cosmetic set
Level 18 – Vengeful Spirit cosmetic set
Level 30 – Legion Commander cosmetic set
In addition, special “Rarity Capsules” at milestone levels grant random cosmetics, with a chance at premium items like Immortals or Arcanas. No purchase is necessary—making it one of the most accessible events in recent memory.
Patch 7.39d may not shake the meta to its core, but it’s a solid, timely balance pass that polishes the game ahead of the biggest tournament of the year. The Quartero’s Curios event adds a fun, light-hearted layer for all players, whether they’re chasing competitive glory or just enjoying casual matches.
