Team Spirit are the Esports World Cup 2026 Counter-Strike 2 champions.
Spirit defeated FUT 3-1 in Sunday's Grand Final in Paris, surviving three fiercely contested opening maps before taking complete control on Nuke to secure the championship.
The victory gives Spirit their second trophy of 2026 following PGL Astana.
And once again, Danil "donk" Kryshkovets leaves a major tournament with an MVP medal.
Few expected FUT to reach the Grand Final when the tournament began.
They did considerably more than simply reach it.
FUT entered the championship series undefeated in Paris after eliminating MOUZ and FURIA during an exceptional playoff run.
And they immediately demonstrated that they were not intimidated by Spirit.
FUT selected Cache as the opening map and delivered a 13-10 victory to take the lead in the best-of-five.
Spirit suddenly found themselves one map down against a team playing its first Big Event Grand Final.
The next two maps would decide everything.
Anubis looked as though it might become straightforward for Spirit when they built a substantial advantage.
It wasn't.
FUT fought back and forced overtime, turning what appeared to be a comfortable Spirit map into another battle.
But Spirit survived.
They eventually closed Anubis 16-13 to level the series.
Ancient followed almost the same pattern.
The teams remained close throughout the map before FUT moved into a 12-9 lead and reached the brink of taking a 2-1 series advantage.
Spirit refused to collapse.
They forced another overtime and escaped with a 16-14 victory.
Two maps.
Two overtimes.
And suddenly Spirit were one win away from the trophy.
There would be no third thriller.
Spirit dominated the attacking half of Nuke and built a huge 10-2 halftime advantage.
FUT had survived difficult positions throughout the tournament, but this deficit proved too large.
Spirit closed the map 13-5.
The championship was theirs.
FUT 1-3 Spirit
Cache: 13-10
Anubis: 13-16
Ancient: 14-16
Nuke: 5-13
For FUT, defeat will hurt, but reaching a Big Event final after victories over some of the world's strongest teams represents a breakthrough tournament for the roster.
For Spirit, anything short of the trophy would have been disappointing.
There was little uncertainty surrounding the tournament's individual award.
donk finished EWC 2026 with a 1.50 rating, producing another elite tournament from start to finish.
He did not record a single map below a 1.00 rating.
He was the highest-rated player on eight maps and maintained the same 1.50 rating across the playoff stage.
His quarter-final performance was particularly important.
Spirit entered their match against Vitality having lost six consecutive series against the French organization.
That streak finally ended in Paris, with donk posting a 1.46 rating as Spirit advanced.
Then, with the EWC trophy on the line, donk produced a 1.87 rating on Nuke to help demolish FUT on the final map.
The performance earns him his 12th career HLTV MVP medal and his second of 2026.
Spirit's tournament was not perfect.
They suffered difficulties earlier in the event, survived close matches and had to overcome a Vitality lineup that had repeatedly beaten them.
But championship teams are not measured by whether every match is comfortable.
They are measured by whether they are still standing at the end.
Spirit are.
FUT provided one final challenge and came remarkably close to taking control of the Grand Final.
Spirit survived it.
Then they crushed Nuke.
The Esports World Cup trophy belongs to Team Spirit.
And for donk, another exceptional tournament ends exactly as so many already have:
with an MVP medal in his hands.
