TaiLung Banned From The International 2026 Over Competitive Integrity Concerns

LGD Gaming will enter The International 2026 without David "TaiLung" Chia, after the player was banned from the tournament following an investigation into competitive integrity concerns.

The decision was confirmed only days before the start of the biggest Dota 2 tournament of the year.

TaiLung has not only been barred from participating at TI 2026 — he has also received a lifetime ban from all future PGL events.

For LGD, the timing could hardly be worse.

The International begins in Shanghai on August 13.

LGD Reported the Matter to Tournament Organizers

According to LGD Gaming, the organization became aware of competitive integrity concerns involving TaiLung and subsequently launched its own internal investigation.

LGD says it then reported the information available to tournament organizers and continued cooperating with the investigation.

Following the review, tournament officials ruled that TaiLung would not be permitted to compete at The International.

PGL additionally imposed a lifetime ban covering its future competitions.

The exact details behind the integrity concerns have not been publicly disclosed in full.

That leaves significant unanswered questions surrounding what happened, but the punishment itself is severe.

A lifetime tournament ban represents one of the strongest sanctions available in professional esports.

A Nightmare Situation Days Before TI

Even under normal circumstances, losing a player days before a major tournament would be an enormous problem.

This is not a normal tournament.

The International is the championship around which the entire professional Dota season is built.

Teams spend months attempting to qualify, structure their season around reaching it and prepare strategies specifically for the event.

LGD successfully secured their place through the South American regional qualifier earlier this summer.

Now they are being forced into an emergency roster change only three days before their first matches.

The organization has moved quickly.

Two-time TI champion Topias "Topson" Taavitsainen has joined LGD for The International and is expected to replace TaiLung in the lineup.

Topson Returns to The International

If LGD had to find an emergency replacement, there are few available players with a stronger TI pedigree than Topson.

The Finnish midlaner became one of the most famous players in Dota history after joining OG shortly before The International 2018 and immediately winning the tournament.

A year later, OG did it again.

Those victories made Topson part of the first Dota roster ever to win consecutive Internationals.

His addition gives LGD enormous experience at the position, but incorporating a new player at this stage is still an extraordinary challenge.

Team chemistry, communication, drafting preferences and hero pools are normally developed over months.

LGD now have days.

Competitive Integrity Back in the Spotlight

The incident comes during a period in which tournament organizers across esports have placed increasing emphasis on match integrity.

Professional Dota's global structure includes tournaments, qualifiers and teams competing across numerous regions, creating a complicated environment for organizers attempting to detect potential misconduct.

For that reason, cases involving integrity concerns are treated extremely seriously.

LGD have also publicly emphasized that fair competition remains a fundamental principle for the organization and that they will comply with the tournament decision.

For now, attention turns back toward the server.

The International begins on August 13.

LGD will still be there.

TaiLung will not.

And Topson has suddenly found himself preparing for another TI run under circumstances nobody expected.
