Counter-Strike Legend NEO Named New Astralis Head Coach

Two of Counter-Strike's most famous names are joining forces.

Astralis have appointed Polish legend Filip "NEO" Kubski as the new head coach of their Counter-Strike 2 team.

NEO replaces Casper "ruggah" Due, who was removed from the position last month, and will be joined by new performance coach Urszula "Xirreth" Klimczak.

For Astralis, the appointment brings one of the most experienced figures in Counter-Strike history into an organization searching for a way back to the top.

From Legendary Player to Coach

Long before becoming a coach, NEO established himself as one of the greatest players of Counter-Strike's earlier generations.

The Polish veteran was a central figure in the legendary Golden Five lineups that dominated portions of Counter-Strike 1.6 and later became synonymous with Virtus.pro during CS:GO.

His playing career included major championships, countless deep tournament runs and more than a decade competing at the highest level.

After moving into coaching, NEO took charge of FaZe.

His time with the international organization produced four notable tournament trophies and three Major Grand Final appearances, including Copenhagen, Shanghai and Budapest.

He parted ways with FaZe earlier this year.

Now he is taking over another of Counter-Strike's most historic brands.

Astralis Searching for Stability

Astralis have spent years attempting to rediscover the dominance that made them the defining team of the late CS:GO era.

There have been promising periods.

The team reached the Grand Final of PGL Bucharest earlier this year, suggesting another breakthrough could be approaching.

But consistency has remained elusive.

Astralis ended the recent competitive season with a disappointing campaign at the IEM Cologne Major, exiting Stage 2 with a 1-3 record following defeats to 9z, TYLOO and paiN.

Those results increased the pressure for change.

NEO will now be tasked with creating a system capable of turning Astralis into a regular title contender again.

A Fascinating Combination

The move carries additional historical weight.

NEO spent much of his playing career competing against Astralis and the Danish Counter-Strike scene.

Now he is responsible for guiding one of Denmark's most famous esports organizations.

The challenge will be different from the one he faced at FaZe.

Astralis are not simply looking for small tactical improvements. The organization has been attempting to rebuild its identity in CS2 while living under the enormous expectations created by its past.

NEO knows something about expectations.

Few players in Counter-Strike history have carried them for as long as he has.

Now the Polish legend begins the next chapter of his career — not behind a keyboard, but behind Astralis.
