Once seen as outsiders, The MongolZ have become one of the most inspiring stories in modern Counter-Strike. Rising from the heart of Mongolia, they’ve gone from local tournaments to challenging the world’s best in CS2 Majors — rewriting what’s possible for Asian esports teams.
Founded in 2013 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, The MongolZ started as a small esports group competing across different titles before finding their footing in CS:GO.
Their journey was far from easy — limited infrastructure, fewer opportunities, and the long road to international exposure. Yet, their determination built the foundation for what would later become one of the most talked-about stories in CS2.
After a quiet period, The MongolZ were revived in 2023 when the former roster of IHC Esports rejoined under their historic banner.
The team found its identity again, led by Garidmagnai “bLitz” Byambasuren — a captain known for his calm leadership and tactical mind.
Current roster (2025):
bLitz – IGL (in-game leader)
Techno4K – rifler
Senzu – entry
mzinho – support
910 – rifler
maaRaa – coach
With this lineup, The MongolZ began to consistently challenge Europe’s elite.
The turning point came at the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024, where The MongolZ became the first Asian team to reach the playoff stage of a CS2 Major.
Their aggressive yet coordinated style shocked the competition — defeating heavyweights like G2, MOUZ, and Heroic before finally falling in the quarterfinals.
Their biggest achievement yet arrived at the BLAST Austin Major 2025, where The MongolZ reached the Grand Final, losing 1–2 to Team Vitality.
This historic run made them the first Asian team ever to reach a Major final — a milestone that inspired players across the region.
The MongolZ’s playstyle blends raw mechanical skill with fearless decision-making.
They are known for:
Fast, explosive mid-round aggression
Excellent use of utility in retakes and executes
Strong communication and synergy between players
The ability to adapt mid-game and surprise opponents
While their pace often catches teams off-guard, they’ve also shown great patience and discipline when needed — a rare balance that defines top-tier Counter-Strike.
Despite their success, The MongolZ still face challenges common to emerging regions:
Limited infrastructure and sponsorship in Mongolia
Long travel distances for global events
Pressure to maintain top-level consistency against Tier-1 competition
However, with their growing fanbase, international recognition, and rising talent pool in Asia, The MongolZ are better positioned than ever to overcome these barriers.
If their upward trajectory continues, The MongolZ could become a long-term fixture among CS2’s top teams.
Their presence proves that Counter-Strike’s competitive spirit knows no borders — talent and discipline can emerge from anywhere.
For fans, The MongolZ represent more than a team — they’re a symbol of how belief, practice, and unity can rewrite the global esports narrative.
